Elevator Drop Test Services
McDonough Elevators provides Drop Test Services for rack and pinion elevators. All tests are performed per applicable code and manufacturer guidelines.
Construction hoists are tested with a rated load every three months as mandated by A10.4 Safety Requirements for Personnel Hoists and Employee Elevators. For permanent rack and pinion elevators, a full load drop test should be performed annually and a no load drop test performed on an alternate annual schedule to the full load test.
These tests are performed per the manufacturers recommended guidelines. The test consists of loading the elevator to its rated capacity with certified weights and performing a free fall test. The test is designed to ensure the elevator safety device is in proper working condition.
When a new safety device is installed a full load drop test must be performed before returning the elevator to normal operation. McDonough Elevators includes this as part of its maintenance contracts, but will also perform the service separately if requested.
